The Zoo

IMG_0782

I could go into long detail about how the morning before the zoo was a horrible ordeal.  We almost did not leave for the zoo.  Once on our trip we almost turned around a couple of times.  But perseverance paid off, as both kids did a great job at the zoo, and even Bella who was sick seemed to be paying attention and looking around the best she could.

This was Oliver first entering the jungle and upon seeing the monkeys making excited monkey noises.

We only stayed for 3 hours, as it was enough to wear our kids out, and we needed to get on the road to head back to Kansas City.  Oliver really enjoyed it, but I don’t think he quite understood what he was doing or seeing.  If you ask him questions about his trip to the zoo, he doesn’t really remember or at least answer anything about it.

Outtakes

This weekend we were back up to Omaha for a funeral and to spend time with family.  Since we were back up in Nebraska and it was a beautiful weekend, we decided to try the Henry Doorly Zoo with the kids.  We have tons of pictures to show you from the day, so I will be busy putting together a post for that this week.

In the meantime…..For the first time ever, I got some successful pictures of Oliver wearing something I have made him.  I thought I would show you all the pictures we took today.

Walking the dogs

This was too cute not to share.  Oliver went and got the leashes out all by himself and wanted to take the dogs for a walk.

A couple things to note:

1.  The neighbors haven’t mowed for 3 weeks or so, it’s getting to be a forest over there.  They haven’t been living there as the sewer backed up and flooded their basement and then they were hooking up to city sewer (that fun and expensive thing we did a year ago).

2.  Oliver isn’t wearing a child’s hat, he is actually wearing Jesse’s hat, and it pretty much fits him, except the bill looks a little large.  Yes his head is that big!

3.  The dogs did a great job letting him walk them, they heeled better for him than us.  I think they knew if they pulled he would go toppling down.

Weekend Recap

Bella is teething again.  So it’s the usual around here.  She is a little fussy and up during the night coughing.

On Saturday we had my friend Shannon’s wedding.  The reception was in an industrial type space on the 8th floor of a downtown building.  It was a great time.

On Saturday morning before the wedding Jesse and Oliver ran to a garage sale to pick up a new chair and Oliver got to pick out a few items himself.  Here he is modeling his new backpack all ready to go to school like Bella….except it will be a year or so for him.

Do I see the beginning of OCD?  All of Oliver’s cars lined up on Mom’s shelf.

And a new favorite activity discovered by Grandma, is painting with water.  This leads to hours of fun for Oliver.

Two Car Pile Up

Oliver and I were in an accident today.  My car was rear ended….and you are never going to believe it, but it was a cop who rear ended me!

No damage was done to either vehicle, luckily the speeds were extremely slow.  The cop was pretty nice about the whole thing.  In fact for the most part it seemed like he didn’t even realize he had hit my vehicle.

Yes, someone got his own car today and was busy driving it around like a crazy man.  I think he likes it a little too much, as the fits he had today whenever he had to leave it outside and come inside with us were monumental.  Looks like the terrible twos have arrived.

And the car thing started because while we were on vacation, Oliver was lucky enough to get to drive around a cozy coupe with his cousin Beckett.  And for a child that loves to be outside so much, it seemed only perfect to get him one.  Lucky for us we scored one from Craigslist….yes Jesse still uses Craigslist, I think he has forgiven me.
