Happy Halloween

Bella made it to her Halloween party today.  Oliver and I were going to go and watch the costume parade, but Oliver seemed to need to sleep instead.

This evening we headed out to trick-or-treat.

001

It was a little uneventful, not many of our neighbors were actually home.  And since we really didn’t need any candy, it was pointless to trick-or-treat at houses we didn’t know.  So we went to a few and called it a night.  There is always next year

Carving Pumpkins

It’s about time we started doing holiday activities….and first up was pumpkin carving.

Bella was paying pretty close attention to what Dad was doing.  And then it was time for Bella to get messy.

Bella picked out a stencil to put on her pumpkin, and Dad got busy carving away.

Oliver woke up and got to watch some of the festivities.  No touching for Oliver though, it would go directly into his mouth.

And Bella has her very own howling wolf to adorn the front porch tomorrow evening.

Bella the Television Star

If anyone was watching Fox 4 news on Thursday morning you might have caught a glimpse of this smiling face.

015

Bella was entered into a contest to win a new or remodeled handicap accessible bathroom.  It’s being funded by the Fox 4 Love Fund along with Schloegel, a local design remodeling firm, for a child in the Kansas City area.  I really hope we win, as it would go a long way to help with one of the most costly pieces of the new first floor bedroom/bathroom that we will be building for Bella in the next year.  I’m sure all of the contestants are just as deserving of the bathroom, so I’m guessing it’s going to be a hard decision to make.

Sickness

So this past weekend I thought I was coming down with a cold.  On Friday night my throat hurt so bad I literally couldn’t swallow.  In the middle of the night I would wake up and have saliva in my mouth and think that getting up and spitting it out would be easier than trying to get it down my throat.  Jesse was continuously commenting on how bad my snoring was, to which I think I mumbled something about not being able to help it and just glad I was getting a little bit of sleep.  Jesse was gracious enough to get up with both kids that night.

By Saturday morning I was feeling a little better and actually by Monday wasn’t feeling sick much anymore, so I was happy that what I thought was going to be a terrible cold turned into something mild that didn’t last long.  So I went about my normal routine on Monday taking care of the kids, working out, sewing, etc.  And I think I’m paying for it today.  Apparently I should have taken it easy for a little while longer to fully get over what ever it was I had.

You know the hardest thing about being sick for me is having to take care of the kids.  First off you don’t feel good and would prefer to be in bed, or at least laying around, not having to be up and continuously taking care of them. Secondly and for me most importantly, you do not want to get them sick.  I have no idea what Oliver is like when he is sick, I’m sure we will find out sometime soon, but I can’t stand it when Bella is sick.  It’s very hard on her and us.  You have seen the many photos of her blood vessels being broken from coughing so hard.  This was Bella last Christmastime.

001

And come to think of it Bella was sick last Halloween.  She didn’t even get to go to her class party and barely made it to two houses to trick or treat.  Hopefully I’m the only one in this house sick this time around, so we can enjoy Halloween.

What a Monday morning

The screaming started at 6:20am this morning.  After about 40 minutes it turned to fussing, I guess a step in the right direction.

Then the fussing child went off to school.

3 hours later the same child gets home and is still fussing.

Luckily this child took a good nap today and seems to be better.

I put on some Baby Einstein DVD’s to see if Oliver would be interested, Bella usually isn’t.  I think it was a toss up between the tissue paper and the movie.  But they looked cute sitting together!

Design Sunday–Neck Deep in Costumes

Only a week left till Halloween and I am 1/3 done with our costumes.

This is what the sewing room looks like right as we speak.

007

It’s a mess.

Bella’s costume is complete.  It’s probably going to give away our theme, but I wanted to show it off anyways.

010

The great thing about homemade costumes is that they look more like clothes.  Although since you really only still wear it once a year it’s probably not worth it for everyone.  meaning I think I still spent about $15 in supplies for the costume and it took me 4 days of naptimes to complete it.

My costume is 3 times the size, so I’m a little worried to see how long it will take.  I guess it better not take longer than a week, or I won’t have anything to wear!

Family Portraits

I wanted to thank our friend Jennifer Clark for coming out to take our family pictures.  She did a great job!

Here are some of the best taken…as promised.
